FRIENDSHIP
BEADING
RETREAT

July 24 to 26, 2009

Holiday Inn Pointe-Claire
Montreal
Quebec, Canada
|
Something fun to look forward to this summer! Here’s your chance to meet fellow beaders in a warm
setting in centurys' old Montreal. Choose to be as busy as you like. Take classes, bead while enjoying
the surroundings; or relax and indulge in the pool. Then join in the beading social or Bead Bingo.
|
|
Marla Novy, a beader from NJ, came up with a wonderful idea at Mt. Tremblant when she was
sitting and beading, rather than skiing because of an injury. She then came to New York City
to bounce the idea off Maria Rypan, who was about to do a lecture for the Bead Society of
Greater New York at FIT. It’s amazing the friendships that develop when you start beading!!!
Beaders make the best friends.
So start planning and register early! Reserve your choice of rooms,
at our special Friendship Beading Retreat rates, at the Holiday Inn Pointe-Claire website,
or call (800) 375-2680 and mention Friendship Beading or group code FRB.

combines an antique look of intricate and curved baroque lines to a modern and geometric design. The mystique of her pieces

mineral energy. Marcia applies a range of techniques and elements to her jewelry which include wire work, wax modeling,
metalwork and the production of her own metal and glass components. Her creations have been sold throughout Canada, the
United States, Europe, Japan and Australia. She owns the friendly gemstone store “Imaginarius” www.imaginarius.ca where

Janus began beading about 10 years ago when she joined a beading group at the Odawa Native Friendship Centre in Ottawa.
The beading bug immediately took hold and she absorbed all the native crafts and culture that she could. It was here she learned
to make dreamcatchers and dreamcatcher earrings. She has since gone on to learn other non-native beading styles, but is fondest
of those crafts she learned from her aboriginal teacher, and is as happy to share her knowledge as her teacher was.

Brenda Franklin

Brenda lives in the center of Southern Ontario, close to everything but in the middle of nowhere. At an early age, she decided she would be an artist and pursued that end. Portrait work was her main focus and animal expression her dominant subject. This led to requests for needlework designs, a website, distributors, dealers and patterns selling worldwide. Along the way, Brenda found beads and figured out that they were ideal for expressing oneself in so many different ways, she still hasn't tried them all.
Brenda has been teaching various disciplines for many years. She has published books and has been published in magazines. She will also be featured in "A Needle Pulling Thread" in 2010 with a collection of her 3-D bead embroidery techniques and is offering a sneak peak with one of the classes at this retreat.
Brenda looks forward to meeting and teaching other bead enthusiasts and looks forward to July in Montreal.
